Cosmos

The best word I have to describe Cosmos is whimsical. They are airy, light, and happy little flowers! They are a fabulous filler flower in bouquets and are gorgeous in your yard. I love planting them on the edge of my manicured yard as it transitions into the natural New Mexican habitat. They feel like they have one foot in each of those worlds to me.

Growing Tips

Cosmos can be planted from starts or seeds. Plant after all danger of frost is gone in an area will full sun. Pinch the plant above the 2nd or 3rd set of true leaves. Watch this video if you are unsure of how to pinch your plants. Water with drip irrigation if possible but not too much as they like hot, dry conditions.

Cosmos seedlings

Cosmos grow big and thick quickly. Once established, you will be able to cut blooms every few days. The more you cut, they more they will grow. If you don’t cut, you might end up with a cosmos hedge like we did and it was BEAUTIFUL!

See our cosmos behind our dahlia row. They were easily 6 feet tall and gorgeous!

This is your year to try Comsos ! They are a very easy beginner flower for the high deserts of New Mexico.
